PROJECT SUMMARY

Metz were engaged to deliver a high performance chemical resistant coating system for the newly constructed plant room at Sunbury Aquatic Centre in 2025. The project required a durable, safe, and professionally finished flooring solution capable of withstanding harsh chemical exposure.

As with all systems preparation is key, first steps included grinding the floor for better bonding. Arrow heads were then installed and securely anchored to the blockwork in preparation for the coving installation. This system provides a clean edge and delivers a highly professional finish throughout the plant room.

Once preparation was complete, the coating installation commenced. The floor was first primed using Metz Epoxy Primer, followed by the installation of the Metz 20M membrane. With the membrane in place, coving works began. The substrate was primed again with Metz Epoxy Primer, before Metz 33EN-VG epoxy novolac vertical grade render was hand troweled to form durable, seamless coves around the room.

The floor system was then installed using Metz 33EN-TG epoxy novolac topping, applied by hand trowel and power troweled in larger areas to achieve a consistent, high quality finish.

To ensure the required slip resistance, Metz Broadcast Sand was incorporated into the system. This achieved a P5 slip rating, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls in an environment where liquids and chemicals may be present.

After curing, the floor was sealed with Metz 4HB-EN epoxy novolac corrosion resistant roll on coating, adding an additional layer of chemical protection and durability followed by Metz 20B polyurethane expansion joints around the perimeter and plinths.

The client was extremely pleased with the final result and confident the plant room flooring will perform reliably for years to come.
