Plinth Repair – Nitric Acid Bund
Newcastle, NSW, Australia
MATERIALS USED
Metz 10VE vinyl ester concrete
Metz 16VE Lining
Metz 16VE Top Coat
Metz Viton™ Caulk control joints
PROJECT SUMMARY
This Nitric Acid Pump plinth has been patched several times but repairs had only been temporary solutions. The client required a fast turnaround refurbishment to prevent any future unplanned shutdowns.
The extensive damage to the coatings and concrete support was repaired to prevent further deterioration by high concentration Nitric Acid.
Existing coatings and damaged concrete were removed. 316L stainless steel reinforcing bars were epoxy anchored into the remaining sound concrete. The plinth shape was formed up and Metz 10VE Vinyl Ester concrete was placed. New anchor bolts were required in places, due to the concrete damage being so extensive.
Finally a layer of chopped strand mat reinforced Metz 16VE Lining was applied to seal off the surface. Control joints were sealed with Nitric Acid resistant Metz Viton™ Caulking.
