PROJECT SUMMARY
Metz were engaged to deliver a fully integrated chemical resistant lining system for a newly constructed Nitric Acid Bund in Yarwun, QLD. The project required a high performance solution capable of protecting concrete substrates from long term exposure to highly aggressive nitric acid.
Due to the extreme chemical environment every stage of the installation needed to follow strict procedures including surface preparation, priming, membrane application, rendering, tiling and sealing. All works were executed using certified Metz materials and in strict accordance with Metz installation procedures and product performance specifications to ensure durability and compliance.
Walls were mechanically ground to remove laitance, contaminants and imperfections to prepare the surface. Metz Epoxy Primer was applied to the walls providing a sealed, fully bonded base for all subsequent layers. Followed by a continuous layer of Metz Viton Membrane over the primed wall to form a durable chemical barrier beneath the Metz 33EN-VG epoxy novolac render. Metz 33EN-VG creates a seamless, highlight chemical resistant wall lining ready for overcoating with Metz 4HB-EN. Metz 18mm Acid Tiles were installed as wall skirting and grouted with Metz 7K potassium silicate cement.
Floors were ground for the sealing and adhesion of Metz Epoxy Primer to create maximum chemical barrier protection beneath the Metz 25mm Acid Tiles . All movement joints were sealed with Metz Viton Caulk One Part to ensure normal structural movement that would not compromise chemical durability.
Metz delivered a low maintenance containment solution delivering long term corrosion protection for critical chemical handling infrastructure, meeting all relevant performance criteria.
