PROJECT SUMMARY

DGL specialises in recycling hazardous waste, including lead acid batteries, to recover valuable metals and materials. This process had exposed the facility’s concrete structure to sustained acid attack, causing significant corrosion. DGL needed a durable flooring system to repair the damaged concrete and deliver long-term protection against ongoing chemical exposure and impact resistance in an active industrial setting.
Metz used advanced robotic hydro-demolition technology to selectively remove deteriorated concrete, reducing safety risks compared to conventional methods, a key priority given the plant remained fully operational throughout the works. This approach also delivered a consistent surface finish. The prepared areas were then reinstated using high quality Metz materials. Metz 10 Epoxy Novolac Concrete was used to initially bed the floor, followed by a trowel-applied layer of Metz 33 Epoxy Novolac Flooring screeded to the required falls. A final seal coat of Metz 4HB Epoxy Novolac with broadcast sand was applied to meet specified slip-resistance requirements, setting up the new flooring system for long-term performance. The result is a seamless, chemical and impact-resistant flooring system built to withstand continuous acid exposure and the heavy operational demands of DGL’s lead acid battery recycling facility. Having previously worked with Metz, DGL knew our materials could withstand the aggressive chemical conditions that had caused the original concrete deterioration. Combined with our technical expertise and ability to safely undertake the repairs while the facility remained operational, Metz provided DGL with a solution that minimised disruption and delivered long-term asset protection.
