PROJECT SUMMARY

The KCGM Growth project required acid resistant containment systems to be installed across four critical processing bunds: Lead Nitrate, Copper Sulphate, Hydrochloric Acid, and F22 Elution. These bunds are exposed to aggressive process chemicals used in mineral processing and gold recovery, creating harsh conditions for concrete infrastructure. Metz was engaged to provide corrosion protection against prolonged chemical exposure and prevent loss of containment integrity, which could otherwise lead to substrate deterioration and costly remediation.

Metz prepared and installed a complete acid-resistant lining system. The system incorporated Metz 33EN-TG to floors with broadcast aggregate for slip resistance and Metz 33EN-VG to vertical surfaces, both sealed with Metz 4HB-EN, and Metz Viton Caulk to movement joints. The protective system was applied to internal bund surfaces creating a seamless chemical-resistant barrier designed for long-term performance in highly aggressive environments. The completed works delivered a robust acid resistant containment system capable of withstanding ongoing exposure to hydrochloric acid, metal salt solutions and other harsh processing chemicals. The project was completed to specification across all four bund areas, providing KCGM with long-term protection of critical containment infrastructure while helping maintain operational integrity and reducing the risk of chemical attack on the underlying concrete substrate. Metz was selected because we could provide a complete turnkey solution, combining industry leading acid resistant lining systems with specialist installation expertise. As both the manufacturer and installer, Metz offered a single point of responsibility for system design, product performance, and installation quality, giving the client confidence in the long-term protection and reliability of these critical containment assets.
